INTRODUCTION
The department of Pathology is the country’s oldest pathology laboratory. Initially it was the country’s central public health laboratory which later in 1978 shifted to Teku and started working as National Public Health Laboratory(NPHL). The department has several sub-departments which includes hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, histopathology and cytology. This department is always dedicated to deliver accurate and reliable routine laboratory tests as well as histo and cytopathology reports. The ultimate aim of the department is to deliver reports on short turn- around time.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES:
The department has been conducting MD pathology programme since the time of inception of National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS). More than twenty MD pathologists have graduated under this programme who are working not only within the country but also serving abroad. Once the residents enrolled, they are subjected to rigorous training and learning activities for full three years duration. The department actively participates in clinic pathological meetings with department of neurosurgery, radiology, gastrosurgery and urosurgery. Different clinical meets will help the patient to get proper and timely management and at the same time will enhance the residents the and faculty to enhance their knowledge.
